Our approach

Tō mātou kaupapa

Our approach is centered around combining sector expertise and insight to deliver a successful fit.

When working with organisations to find specialist skills, no two roles have identical needs.

We have evolved our business from a traditional agency recruiter to a search-based consultancy, with more than 60% of placements arising out of our search activities. Our search methodology enables more active inclusion of under-represented groups at all stages of the process.

We know what it takes to find and place future leaders.

Building pathways to and for exceptional people takes a different approach to recruitment. We identify and build connections with skilled professionals inside and outside of the traditional recruitment channels. Our journey towards strengthening this within New Zealand’s workforce sees us exploring more and more ways to engage with people from all kinds of backgrounds and experiences.

Underpinned by the values of manaakitanga, whanaungatanga and kaitiakitanga, we aim to provide a mana-enhancing experience for our candidates and clients alike.

We are committed to providing ongoing professional development to all our kaimahi to ensure the consistent and cohesive delivery of mana-enhancing and inclusive recruitment services.

Working with Organisational Development professionals, we have developed training that has been tailored to our pakihi, including workshops on the history of He Whakaputanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, along with a series of workshops that unpack unconscious bias, focused on how to identify it and eliminate it in our recruitment practises.

A key pillar of our representation and inclusion strategy is to create leadership pathways for Māori and Pasifika candidates and we work with external partners to enrich our talent pipeline.

We are proud supporters of the Tūhono Māori Network, Te Rau Hihiri, Tupu Toa, and Diversity Works. We were founding members of Tūhono Pou Tangata, a network of over 50 Māori HR professionals, for whom we continue to provide sponsorship and secretariat services.

With a growing practice in the recruitment of roles with a Mātauranga Māori focus, we are fortunate to be supported by our Pou Tiaki Trevor Moeke and Kura Moeahu.

Niche is committed to environmental sustainability and we off-set our emissions through our partnership with CarbonInvoice™ to take meaningful and immediate climate action.

CarbonInvoice works with local native tree planters to mitigate the emissions that arise from our business’ carbon footprint. Niche Recruitment is a Positive Business!
